A trip to the city of Luxor

Luxor is a city on the east bank of the Nile River in southern Egypt. It is a large city in Egypt and is surrounded by masses of history. The city today is very busy and is popular with tourists who are looking to visit the nearby temples such as the Karnak temple and the famous Valley of the Kings.

The Valley of the Kings is a large burial ground where numerous tombs have been discovered over the years belonging to the Pharaohs that once ruled Egypt. Amongst these tombs is the tomb of Tutankhamun, the famous boy king. His tomb was discovered by the British archaeologist and Egyptologist, Howard Carter in 1922 and was still full of his treasures and even his mummy when it was opened. The tomb amongst others in the Valley of the Kings is a very popular tourist destination and with ten tombs open at one time there is a lot of exploring to do. The royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens are on the river’s west bank.

Many of the people who live in Luxor had family members who lived and worked there many generations ago.
