When going on holiday it is important to think about safety. This may be your own safety or that of your children. Safety whilst abroad can mean a number of different things, one being keeping safe in the sun. If you are planning on going somewhere hot then you may find yourself exposed to temperatures that we often do not see in the UK and with this comes the risk of sun burn and heat stroke. You need to ensure that you wear an adequate level of sun screen and ensure that you keep yourself well hydrated throughout the day. You may need to avoid the direct sun during the hottest time of the day, which is why many countries have a siesta during this time. Sun burn can not only ruin a holiday but can have devastating long term consequences and it is really not worth the risk.
Children’s skin tends to be more delicate and therefore more prone to burning. You should keep children covered up whist in the pool or sea with a sun suit or long sleeve tshirt and make sure that they always wear a hat. Sun screen easily washes off in the pool or over time so needs to be applied regularly and topped up when you or your children have been in the water.
